The Gort Inse Guaire Town Centre plan was launched on December 20th 2023 and it was highlighted that Gort was leading the way is the first area in Galway to launch a town centre plan.
Over 50 people attended the launch where the key themes of the plan were outlined and presented.
There was high-level of interest on the different areas and lots of feedback given.
Liam Conneally, the chief Executive of Galway County Council indicated that Gort was leading the way and indicated that Galway County Council would support this plan and there were various funding streams available. He indicated the plan now needs to progress from paper to action through the delivery of the different projects outlined in the plan.
David Murray is and community activist, engineer and artist. He is deeply involved in his local community and has led several grassroots projects across South Galway.
His key community initiatives include:
The Gort River Walk: Actively involved in the development and realization of this beautiful local amenity trail for the South Galway/North Clare region.
Environmental Advocacy: Part of successful local campaigns to protect the area's natural ecosystem, including halting a proposed mega-biogas plant in the environs of Gort near the Gort River.
Active Infrastructure: A vocal proponent of progressing long-term flood relief solutions for South Galway and championing sustainable transport initiatives, such as the campaign to integrate the National Cycleway into the local area.
David is also an Artist, and has several successfull exhibitions. He is a member of the Burren Bandits band and also an author of 2 books.
Professionally, David is a fellow working the the high-tech firm Arm.
